Ballyclare Farm was founded in 2007 by Kerry and her parents in North Potomac, Maryland. After the farm outgrew the small 4 stall barn and 8 acres, Kerry moved on and spent years leasing facilities. While in the beginning the farm was mainly a lesson and show barn with the occasional sale OTTB or rescue pony, over the years the focus slowly shifted to more and more thoroughbreds. As connections were made the thoroughbreds started pouring in and turned to every horse a trainer had instead of just saleable horses with the potential for an unblemished athletic career.
In 2014 the farm made the biggest move yet and moved across the river to beautiful Waterford, Virginia. The stunning 25 acre farm sits in scenic Loudoun County at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. What started as a small, cozy 3 stall barn and 2 paddocks now boasts an additional 10-stall barn with all accommodations including heated wash stall and tack room with built in lockers, attached indoor arena, large outdoor, round pen, and an additional 6 stall shed row barn with tack room leased out to another thoroughbred fanatic Renzulli Racehorse Restarts.
As our thoroughbred program grew our focus evolved from being student and boarding based to horses off the track. We have always had a spot for those needing a soft landing and try to never turn down a horse in need. Horses needing time off are given that and any vet work needed is provided. Any and all proceeds from sale horses go towards the farm and these horses' care. We currently have an average of
15-20 thoroughbreds in our care.
In 2022 Ballyclare officially became a 501c3 non-profit. With sales up and down and it being the primary income of the farm, and word getting out about our ability and willingness to take in injuries and rehab cases, sales alone did not cover the growing expenses. All rehabs were taken at our expense and all vet bills and care paid for by sales horses. The purpose of our non-profit status is to allow us to take donations to help these cases. There are always several horses behind the scenes that are in rough shape that we will not post publicly anywhere. There are trainers and connections that reach out to us in tough times to help get horses off of their feed bill and we do not wish any ill publicity on them. Our focus is on helping the horses and we will continue to do that. All donations and sales go 100% towards the horses. Donations are tax deductible, and a receipt will be provided.
